Stay: 2 weeks visiting local family. RV Site 1 Lake Shelby campground is nice with a nice walking trail and lake views. However, what detracts from that is the constant cycle of traffic all day in and out. Left us wondering where are all the cars going and what is causing all that traffic? There’s no outlet so everyone entering must also exit past our RV site, and it’s a dirty dusty road. Not sure we’d choose this campground again, there’s just too much non-camping traffic in and out.
We stayed 10 days visiting our kids, Grand kids & friends as we moved out of state a couple years ago. The host is super nice and always made sure that who was parked in the campground were suppose to be there. They made sure bathrooms were clean & stocked with toilet paper. Grounds were clean but you get those that come to fish not always picking up after themselves. Alot of cars come and check out the park or fish but we never felt unsafe. We highly recommend camping here at Shelby Lake Campgrounds in Shelbyville KY. There are alot of geese but they are not aggressive and stayed away from our personal camp site. Kind of fun to watch.
Site #11 for five nights. Shade tree in the middle of the site. Long way from bathhouse and port-a-john. Tough site for our 10x10 tent between water drainage and the tree roots. It did work right in front of the shade tree on the stones (bring a heavy tarp) Friendly host. Very busy County park so lots of traffic. Huge County park. On the other side of the water were softball and soccer fields and pool, although we did 🚭 explore.
When I was a kid my dad and I used to come here, about 10 years ago, the lake was healthy and clean and had all kinds of fish. I haven’t been able to catch a bass in this lake in 5 years unless I take my boat way up the creek in the very back. It’s now dirty with trash everywhere and really just an unpleasant experience now. They need to focus on stocking the lake with bass and baitfish and cleaning up the place. I believe that would make this park such a better place to come and visit and fish.
Nice, small campground. There are only about 10 RV sites and several for tent camping. It is very quiet with beautiful surroundings. The park has a walking trail right by the water and it's beautiful. Some of the latter can get pretty far from the bathroom. The shower is pretty dated and there isn't much privacy. Unfortunately, one of our neighbors was smoking so much weed that sitting outside was almost impossible without getting nauseous. We talked to the campground host about it but nothing changed. Overall, it's a beautiful place for a quick stopover, to do some fishing or just to relax.
