My girlfriend and I went there for a 5-day camping trip. Being birdwatchers, we chose the site because of its proximity to the sandbar, a spot known for seeing hundreds of shorebirds. We were given the new campsites at the top of the campground. These new sites are perfect for those who enjoy rustic camping. There are trees, and the sites are far enough apart from each other to offer good privacy. These new sites are 401 to 408. I recommend them for tent camping enthusiasts, like us. And the view! A beautiful view of the river and part of the St. Lawrence River. There are also sites 500 to 505, which are also for tents, but offer less privacy, as people pass by them on their way to the beach. I advise against sites 105 and 106, as we noticed they are near the toilet block and its septic tank… These sites should definitely be discounted, if they aren't already. Or at least, those booking them should be informed. The showers need improvement; they don't seem to offer consistent pressure and hot water. The first time, my girlfriend and I got a trickle of water that barely trickled from the showerhead. Sometimes the water was hot, sometimes not. The second time was much better. There's a sign on the doors of the men's and women's toilets/showers saying to wait 5 minutes after the previous person has used the shower before getting pressure/hot water, but even if you wait, it's not guaranteed to work, as it didn't work the first time. In short, an effort should be made to improve the facilities. Another point for improvement is the accessibility of the Community Pavilion. It isn't always accessible. Sometimes it's padlocked by seasonal workers who monopolize the space, making it inaccessible even during the day. Pavilions like this in other campgrounds are popular with campers passing through. They provide a place to spend some time on long, rainy days. Or at least, people should be notified in advance when activities are taking place, meaning the pavilion won't be accessible from certain hours. In short, it's a lovely place to stop for a few days!
I must admit I don't understand why so many reviews are so positive about this campground. Perhaps the management has changed, but our experience was very different. On our campsite, we had to remove long wood screws where we were going to pitch our tent. Luckily, it was more of a scare than anything else! As for the prices, the campsite was inexpensive, so no complaints there. However, firewood costs $10, a shower is $2 (8 x 25¢) for four minutes, and they don't sell ice. For the shower, a sign indicates that you have to wait 5 minutes if someone has just used it to get water pressure or hot water... This morning, at 8:00 a.m., there was no water (neither hot nor cold). Also, the speed limit is 7 km/h. I did my best to respect it, but my speedometer started at 10 km/h. I was warned by a woman in a golf cart who was driving with one leg outside the cart. She told me I was going too fast and that it was dangerous for the children. Finally, there is a pavilion on site, but don't rely on its presence to plan your stay; it was closed when we were there :(
OK
Well... You have to constantly remind yourself that it's next to THE main road up Cote Nord. Lots of trucks and Harleys. Otherwise, well priced , clean and friendly people.
Nice view of the st Laurence. The most appealing was the service at the marina. If you need to rent anything..they got..from fishing rods to quads..excellent customer service from the rental equipment.
