Short and very smooth dirt road to reach the campground that is very easy to drive on for 2wd even lowered car. Good campground very close to the beach. Not every site has firepit. A bit chaotic as people are free to drive anywhere through the site and there is no separation of caravans and tents. The large sites can be quite narrow and close to each other.
The most amazing campground! Perfect for our family holiday trip. Spent a few nights down here and it was amazing. Good location with toilets, camped right on the beach and it was very peaceful!!
Such a lovely campsite! Amazing views over a beautiful beach, woke up to have breakfast watching the whales go past. Campsites weren’t massive but everything else was great.
Location is exceptional: the campground sits right beside Gillards Beach with bushland on one side and sand on the other — perfect if you want the sound of waves and beach access. Nature and wildlife are a big draw - kangaroos, wallabies and even goannas wandering near the campsites, which adds to the “out in the wild” experience. The setting is great for families and couples seeking something a bit more natural and less commercial — wide grassy sites, shaded areas, and tranquil surrounds. Facilities are very quite basic. While there are toilets, you’ll need to bring your own drinking water and be ready for limited amenities. “No showers, no potable water”. Access is via a dirt road and the site is unpowered — great for nature lovers. The beach is lovely, but because it’s unpatrolled you’ll need to be cautious with swimming, the surf can be very rough. Booking essential - it's very popular! If you’re after a genuine beach-camping experience on the NSW South Coast — think bush, ocean, wildlife, and fewer frills — Gillards Campground is a standout. It delivers something special: wake up to waves, wander into the bush, and really connect with nature. Tips Bring plenty of water for drinking and washing Choose a site early in the day to get a spot with good shade or beach access. If you’re after a swim, check surf conditions and be mindful that the beach is not patrolled.
This is a really nice campground, but has a narrow track for a few km to get in so pick your moment to arrive (ie not early or you're more likely to meet someone leaving). Lots of choices for camp spots, either tent or camper or caravan, all bookable online and clearly marked. There are 4 well maintained drop toilets across the zones. Access to the beach is currently limited due to wash aways from the wild winter seas.
