Beautiful and such interesting history of how earthquakes created the lake. Exceptional day or weekend worth of exploring and they also have so many activities to offer like pontoon rides on the lake and eagle nest guided tours. The new wooden walkway and gaze6's are beautiful designed and gets you out in the water and over the cypress knees.
The state park cabins are excellent. We have met are children and grand children here for some eagle watching, scenic views, and family fun. The cabin is right on the lake with a view that doesn't disappoint. Be sure to go to the visitor center! There's lots of info on the area wildlife.
This is the second year that we have travelled here in January to view eagles. Reelfoot SP has not disappointed. From singles and pairs sitting in trees, eagles soaring overhead to ten or more at once feeding in a field. All viewed from the comfort of your car on well maintained gravel roads.
We went over Thanksgiving and while it was COLD and windy, we had fun. Campground is beautiful and the giftshop/museum/nature center were really neat. Looking forward to returning when we can take more advantage of the trails and lake.
Reelfoot Lake State Park might be one of my favorite parks—and I’ve visited quite a few. I had the pleasure of taking both the 9 AM pontoon tour with seasonal interpreter Christian Rhodes and the special Fourth of July sunset cruise with Firework views with Ranger Morrow, and both were incredible. Each tour offered a different perspective and taught me new things about the lake and its unique ecosystem. Experiencing a jumping carp in the boat was an event in itself. One of the highlights was watching Christian Rhodes feed the birds of prey—bald eagles, hawks, and several owls species—it was such a rare experience that really sets Reelfoot apart. The entire park was well-maintained, the bathrooms were impressively clean, and all of the rangers and staff couldn’t have been more friendly and informative. If you’re looking for natural beauty, fascinating wildlife, and top-notch ranger programs, this park delivers in every way. I Can’t wait to visit again.
