Campground is pretty good, better for smaller to mid-size RV's. The big ones need to be very selective as they aren't going to fit everywhere. Many sites are less than level; it can be a challenge to get everything just right. We had full hookups. I see many places in the park that can use updating and/or more consistent maintenance--campsites to trails.
This is our second time camping at Cannan Valley campground. This time we booked at the new sites. Each site comes with 30/50 AMP Electric & Water & Sewer. The new added bathhouse is clean. There are a lot of trails near by. Highly recommend to camp at Canaan Valley Campground.
GREAT campground. Been coming here for over 30 years. Lots of recent improvements like new bathhouse and more RV sites. Love it here.
Written from an RVer’s perspective. Canaan Resort Campground is an well run and laid out State run RV site. The older section has mostly shady sites with tall oaks. Spacing is generous with variations between pull-in and back-in parking. The new section has primarily sunny sites with good views of the mountains. As of June 2023 the sewer hook-ups on the new section are not functional, so they’re water and electric only. A new bath house is available. There are several hiker’s trails that start close to the campground and are a great way to get out into nature. One of them leads to the main lodge if you’re up to the 1 1/2 mile hike. Restaurants and other recreation are available at the lodge. Campground personnel are friendly and the grounds are clean and maintained. Overall, rated excellent and it’s on our list of return visit campgrounds.
We visited this campground without making a previous reservation arriving 4-3-22 and departing 4-4-22. We went to enter the campground and were directed via a sign to another location to make our reservation. We went there and found another sign instructing us to visit a third, the resort itself. We spoke to a woman at the front desk who called someone from the pool area of the hotel and sent us over there. This woman was nice and we got everything sorted out reservation wise. I paid $40 for the one night with a discount applied. Went back down to the campground to find our site which was near the bathroom/showers/laundry room and across the road from some construction that I suspect they’re trying to finish up before the busier summer season. There was nowhere to buy firewood or anything at the time we went. We liked how there was a separate trash can for each site. Note: trash cans were not bear proof. The showers and flush toilets were still on during the off season which was great and there was even a heater in the bathroom on the whole time. The day we left we went back up to the hotel to swim in their pool/hot tub which you can do for an additional day pass fee. The attendant was nice enough to allow me to swim briefly without one. Overall a bit pricey for a non electric/potable water campsite but it did the trick and we would recommend to a friend. Pet friendly.
