Always great service, clean atmosphere, the staff are the best
If you’ve never been to the Cenex in Deer River, let me paint you a picture: imagine a place where the coffee is strong enough to fix your attitude, the hot food rotates on rollers like it’s training for the Olympics, and the customers are a mix of tired travelers, local legends, and one guy who may or may not be living in the parking lot by choice. I walked in needing gas and walked out with a full tank, a bag of jerky, a philosophical conversation about the weather, and a spiritual connection to a breakfast sandwich that definitely wasn’t FDA-approved but was absolutely blessed. The cashier greeted me with the official Minnesotan welcome: “Hey there… how are ya? Oh jeez, long drive? Ya betcha.” Instant emotional support. Let’s talk bathrooms. Were they spotless? No. Were they usable? Yes. Did I question some of my life decisions while washing my hands? Also yes. But that’s part of the charm. It builds character. And the snack aisle? A wonderland. They have 47 different flavors of chips, but not the one you came in for. Somehow you leave with three bags anyway. It’s Cenex Law. Overall, 10/10. If Deer River had a theme park, this Cenex would be the main ride. You don’t go because you need to — you go because it feels like home, chaos and all.
This is certainly one of the nicest Cenex stations around. It's always clean, well-stocked; it's a co-op rather than a conglomerate station so that is a plus. I prefer filling my ride here and there's ample space for RV folks. There's a Pizza Hut (Express) inside; I bought one on a whim recently, and it's just as greasy and bready as I remember it from 5th grade (in a fond, nostalgic sense). Decent hot food at the right price. There used to be an A&W, so don't come expecting that anymore. Best station in town (competition is limited). And there's a friendly clerk working on evenings.
Nice, clean gas station to stop at. Easy access in/ out pulling our 40ft camper. Great selection of food and souvenirs. Nice C-store options. It's a good stopping point along Hwy 2.
Easy in and out even with a trailer or RV. Nice new building that is clean and has lots of space. Friendly cashiers, good selection of food and drinks. Has A&W, Pizza Hut, and sub sandwich shop. Propane, car wash and RV dump station are so convenient.
