Fitzroy River Lodge

Powered site down the back. Couldn't get to the pool maybe 200 metres away due to flooded mud road and knee high grass. Steaming hot weather. I know it's hard to mow in the wet season. And after rain though. But we also paid $60 for 1 night. Because frankly it is a safe spot and half way so we were over a barrel with that price. Amenities were filled and I mean filled with bugs, beetles, spiders and moths. Screens have holes everywhere. I spent the shower I was desperate for in the heat, ducking and weaving bugs. Toilets were full of floating bugs even with seat down. Doors don't shut properly. And all the men standing around toilet block that might live in the block itself. In 7 months of travel that's the 1 place I want my money back. Literally 2 other caravans in park. Total off season stuck down the back Couldn't get to restaurant or pool by foot. ( our only option). Reception was lovely for check in.

After finishing a 15 hour drive from darwin an pulling up for the night i got a 630am wake up call from reception accusing me of not paying for my nights stay an calling me a theif, after i showed on my phone the receipt for the transaction an the text message confirming my payment and giving me the code to the lock box which contained my key an map as i requested a late check in. i get told i have to pack up immediately and come to reception to sort it out right away with no apology or remorse for a misunderstanding or falsely accusing me of something an barely even a moment to still wake up properly. So I packed up went to reception sorted it out (they even tried to make me pay a second time which i straight up refused because i had already paid an had the receipt on my phone) best believe next time ill stay at a truck stop or push through to a better place with staff that have some sort of basic communication and people skills. No wonder the place is empty

We enjoyed the campground and its infrastructure. The Dinner was awesome! The Papardelle was like directely from Italy. And the curry was also exquisite. Your Cook earn a Micheline or some Gauld Millau! The service is friendly but should come more often for asking for drinks or additional order. One small improvement: Brandy / Cognac is served warm. In a big like oversized wineglass. In Spain they even heat it in the glass while serving. This place is really beautiful and I recommend everyone to come here.

A bit rough around the edges, but that's hardly surprising given the remote location, and also part of the charm. Large campground with big amenities block and access to a decent pool, restaurant and a bar where you can mix with the locals. Highlight for us was the fact that they, somewhat randomly, also have a pizza truck which cranks out some pretty good kai, so you can have a decent feed while watching the sun go down over the river (may or may not have water in it) and observe the local wallaby population bouncing around. All the staff we met were friendly and very efficient. Diesel available onsite (cheapest in town apparently).

We were pleasantly surprised! 😍 Initially, we were apprehensive due to negative reviews, and check-in didn't exactly ease our concerns 😬 But once we settled into our site, we were blown away! The amenities were top-notch - the restaurant, bar, and swimming pool were all fantastic .. And the highlight of our stay was the incredible food van serving home made authentic Italian pizzas and fresh fish and chips 😋 Watching the sunset over the river was simply spectacular 🌅 The visible security patrols put our minds at ease, making us feel more than safe and comfortable. We'd highly recommend this spot - it's a must stop to do if passing through although we would happily have stayed 2 nights
