I could be biased when it comes to outdoor reviews; having been here so many times, I have always enjoyed my time. Such a lovely lake to take a nature walk or take some great photos.
I finished the rest of the trails out here. All Trails showed some trails that I guess were old because I didn't see them. When I got done, I forgot to hit finish, so the map shows me during now on the way home. I remembered when I got over on hyway 43. It said I went 24.49 mi 3h 2m. I probably went only around 8 mi or little more. It was really nice out today for hiking.
This used to be a nice, clean, scenic lake with a great swimming beach. As of June 2024 the drought has supposedly ended in Lancaster County, but the water level remains as low as last summer. The beach is completely unusable, overrun by weeds, and large areas of the lake that used to be underwater are now home to tall plants. Maybe someday the lake will be restored to its former glory, or at a minimum perhaps Game & Parks will give some kind of a status update as to what is going on with this lake.
Edit as of 7/15/2018: Kayak, canoe and SUP put in area on south side of like is not well monitored and as a result is overrun with swimmers, people just using beach area, and boats docking. Even with a No Swimming sign it is ignored by virtually everyone taking up space here. No longer a good place to paddle. Super sad to see it slide because park staff aren’t making visits and enforcing areas. I’ve observed countless paddlers having to cart their boats from way up the drive because other people there aren’t using the put in correctly. Respectful boaters and campers alike, best place to be in this area. Great swimming beach, good facilities, enough shoreline for a longer paddle on the kayak. The separate canoe/kayak put in makes my day!!!! Nothing but great experiences here for years, camping and kayaking.
Well taken care of area, clean lake, clean grounds. Would camp here again and again. The best, we'll kept lake I had camped at this year!
