I used to love coming here as a kid. I recently took my grandkids to the Campground store and how disappointing and ridiculous. The recent tenants of this store ruined it. They used to sell cheap, penny candy and soft serve ice cream, and that was one of the highlights of the day. Not any more. Most candy is between $3 to $5. I think they had 2 candy items for under a dollar. They do sell a good variety of camping essentials with a steep markup, mind you, but if you got to have it, they probably got it. They also sell firewood. It's a nice little store, I just wish they'd come to their senses and bring back the little brown paper bags and penny candy for the kids.

The park is our favorite! Sadly, the park store has new owners that seem nice, but have gutted the store of everything that made the old store awesome. No more eggs, bacon, condiments, water and sand toys, no more clothing, etc. A complete waste of a store. We went in once in our 5 day stay. We use to be in it multiple times a day.

Site 26 We had a Lake Huron view and very short walk to the beach. Power box will be on the opposite side of your camper if you back in so bring a longer power cord. Site is fairly large, few trees. At the end of the site is the infamous painted rock garden. Host at the time had everything set up for kids to paint rocks, I’d suggest bringing your own paint if you as an adult wanted to leave something. Beach is rocky with larger smooth stones to tiny pebbles, we found sea glass too. Water is nice, clean & cool. Check out the sunrise if you can. It was storming almost every night but it was short and not too bad, some overnight, no issues on our site as far as flooding. Bathrooms are nice, clean, a lot of them. I think I counted 6 shower stalls, no wait on a Friday morning. Nice camp store with hand dipped ice cream and nachos and lots of random items if you forgot something nail clippers, dog leashes,Tylenol, camper accessories, etc. You can get 3 bundles of firewood for $20 and they let you borrow their cart to haul it back to your site. Dump station is kinda wonky around 3pm on Fridays & 1ish Sundays so plan accordingly for a long wait when busy, because there’s only 2 dumping stations and potable water spots. When busy they have you wait in line in the campground and go around. Nice playground for the kids. Bike path is short/small, nice, short walk/bike ride to a more secluded beach. We saw a lot of kids riding alone because it’s so close to the campgrounds. Pepperoni Cow is a pizza and ice cream place close. Check out the Lakeport Tavern on Fridays for the best all you can eat “square“ cod dinner. 🤌 Overall I’d camp here again, maybe not on 26 because there was a lot of foot traffic with the beach goers and painted rock placers. Site 24 is the other coveted spot overlooking Lake Huron, it’s on the other side of the beach path. I think I’d stay in the campground closer to the ranger station next time, lots of woods and trees seems quite.

We come to Lakeport every year for a big family reunion. I have family that has easment to the beach so the Fireworks were done outside of Lakeport. Little disappointed this year on them telling us Even though we Paid for 2 lots we couldn't put our camper between the lots we paid for!! We had 6 lots and they were telling us how to use them, when we walked around we saw other people with tents all over the place with more than 1 lot being used. Yes we will be going back because it is our family tradition.
