State Park stickers are now good for 12 months, instead of just the calendar year! Beautiful state park with natural dunes & somewhat challenging hiking trails. Nice campgrounds too!
This is a unique state park along the shore of lake Michigan in sheboygan county. What makes it unique are the sand dunes which are protected in the state in a few locations, this being one, another is in Door County in Sturgeon Bay at Whitefish Dunes state park. There is a board walk that can be followed along the dunes with a barrier keeping walkers from exploring on the protected dunes. The trail is very hilly, and the board walk for the path is quite rickety, so use caution when walking on it. Some spots are under sand, others are so misshapen and tilted it's not safe to walk on. This is a beautiful park, so walk safely, stay on the trails and watch signs for when the welcome center is open. There is plenty of parking at different points of the park. They didn't have any bathrooms or outhouse along the lake trail, not sure if other trails have them, but if the welcome/visitor center is open there should be a bathroom in there. Enjoy!
Stopped by the beach on an 85 degree day in late September. The water was chilly as expected, but the beach was beautiful. There was plentiful parking this time of year and was a great way to soak up a last bit of summer. As an aside, the family camped here about a year ago and the kids have been begging to go back. The sites feel secluded and having the beach and cordwalk right there is a big bonus.
Beautiful park. The boardwalk trail was so gorgeous. Interesting campground set up, some spots are just on the side of the road which is a new one for me.
This park is absolutely beautiful, offering a perfect mix of dunes, beach, and forest. The beach is stunning, the dunes are unique, and there are plenty of great camping spots with clean wash facilities. It was a wonderful experience. Wildlife is abundant, and there’s so much natural beauty to take in. The campground is very clean, and the bathrooms and sites are well maintained. Staff and nature center guides are friendly and helpful. A truly scenic and diverse park — highly recommended for nature lovers, campers, and hikers alike!
