Love this place. Lots of wildlife and fishing is ok.
Beautiful park in all seasons and provides great trails for nice walks with swans and geese. But when I recently visited mid February, I noticed in the lake and on land there are quite a lot of Canada geese that are dying or already dead most likely because of the lack of food and the freezing cold weather and due to the recent heavy snow covering all the grass, which is their food source. And a lot of them looked thin and came up to us to ask for food clearly showing that they are very hungry. I unfortunately did not have with me a lot of food to feed them since there are a lot of them all over the park and I live far so I can’t help them. Therefore I was hoping that the park management can do something about this or people living nearby can kindly go and help them by providing them more food or inform a wildlife rehabilitator or animal centers about this issue.
Great hike. Party attention to the signs and stay out of the hunting areas. My apologies... That one sign didn't seem to go that way. Them when we looked at the map again it all made sense. Thanks for the warning.
Great place to drop a kayak in and experience a world of swans! It’s peaceful and relaxing to sit amongst them and watch. Plenty of parking and a cool launch with a railing to slide your kayak up and down the embankment.
I’ve been coming to Southaven County Park for just about 10 years now, and it never gets old. Whether you’re hiking, kayaking, or just relaxing by the water, it’s always been my go-to spot for a beautiful day. The scenery is peaceful, the trails are well-maintained, and there’s something about the atmosphere that keeps drawing me back year after year. It’s the perfect place to unwind, reconnect with nature, and make great memories. Highly recommend
