Great views and clean trails. (Bike and group friendly) There are 2 beach sides to drive to and plenty of parking on both. The Visitor center on the West Beach is small but neat for kids.
I chose this like because it was dog friendly, and about an hour from my house. I felt like this was something that was doable in terms of distance and elevation on a quick day hike. Note to self the parking situation was not to be desired. There is a parking lot, but it fills up quickly. The only option is street parking and the road is very narrow. I had to park on the shoulder about a quarter of a mile away from the park entrance. This is definitely a hike for anybody and there were lots of dogs and families and bike riders. It was a little crowded for my liking, so I probably wouldn’t do this one again but I could see how if you live close. You just want to get a quick hike in this would do the trick.
A hidden gem with very stunning views. There are decently short hikes with great views and streets you can simply drive to get the beautiful views. The one thing to note is that there are some portions of the massive lake that are dried out unfortunately
Great for hiking. An hour from SF, this large regional park tucked into the hills of Livermore will immediately transport you to another place. Well maintained hiking trails (use AllTrails) that wind through Bay & Oak trees, up and over ridges and across creeks. Ideal time to go is during the winter months when the hills are green and the temperature is below 70. Very little shade at the top. Bring lots of water.
I hiked Lake Del Valle Trail on 1/4/2025 roughly 14.6 miles (23.5 km) loop It was a long and Hard because the rain, can be strenuous due to distance and rolling terrain. It took me 6½ hours because I walked on my own pace & breaks. The elevation Gain was 2,300 ft . I hiked loop around the north and east sides of Lake Del Valle. What You’ll See & Experience The Lake Views was incredible, I love the trail stays up on ridges and gently rolling hills above Lake Del Valle, giving me expansive views of water, hills, and open sky. The route mixes wider fire roads with narrower natural singletrack sections that follow along ridgelines and near the lake. Expect rolling climbs and descents rather than a single flat path. The view around Del Valle Cliffs was spectacular. I will have to come back to this trail again on a sunny day. Happy hiking.
