I have visited Kauaʻi many times and have stayed at various resorts, paying substantial taxes to the State of Hawaiʻi. Despite the island’s natural beauty, I am consistently disappointed by the lack of effective government response to visible social and public-safety issues. Homeless encampments, persistent drug odors, and unattended dogs are widespread, which negatively affects residents and visitors alike. Given the high cost of living and tourism prices, I expect a higher standard of public services and community management. These ongoing conditions raise serious concerns about government oversight, priorities, and accountability.
There is a Russian word — Pizdec — which expresses a complete loss of understanding due to something being so unbelievable and incomprehensible. That’s exactly how I felt about this place. The majority of the people staying at this campsite seemed to be homeless. This is the only place on the entire island where I smelled marijuana. Throughout the night, random people were coming and going — either to the bathroom or to the shower — both of which were extremely old and in poor condition. There was no host present. I called the number listed on the website where I booked the place, and the person on the phone told me that if I didn’t like it, I could just go and book a hotel instead — apparently, that’s a normal attitude here. I found this response both discouraging and disappointing. I am giving this place the lowest rating possible.
Fine campsite for a night! Map at the park doesn't show sites, and it was hard to read the signs in the dark even with head lights on, they are kind of crammed in. Bathrooms have no soap or dryers of any kind, but the giant building was easy to access. No noise issues, the jungle fowl get right to work in the morning. Do yourself a favor and watch the sunrise on the beach - you won't regret it!
The view is beautiful. I am absolutely appalled that they have a wonderful place to picnic and cookout with your family however, they’re too cheap to allow you to use it because they won’t turn the power on. I thought it would be nicer than that. Also I think they should have Internet here because your phone doesn’t work very well. Let Might I remind them that people spend thousands of dollars to come here to camp. We pay for permits to camp and they won’t even allow us to use the electric for the facilities that are provided that’s wrong
Great during the daytime. It has okay washroom facilities, nice areas to camp by the beach, and the best playground I've ever visited. A heads up there are people living there for long periods by the forested areas. We had no issues camping there for a night.
