Great quiet campground. Lots of space between sites, trees for hammocks, open space in the middle. Be ready for the birdsong alarm at sunrise. 15-minute walk from visitor center, which has 24-hr bathroom with running water.
Primitive campground with drop toilets and a solar charging station for your phones. 0.5 mile walk to the visitor center
Short walk to the sites which sit in a wide circle of six, surrounded by forest with a grassy area in the center. It was a great and sure way to get in and see the synchronous fireflies. Being a solo traveler, a good hiking backpack would have been handy as it was a lot to carry for one person. Amazon has me covered for next time; looking forward to the return trip!
Surprisingly wide-open camping space in Congaree National Park. Great for groups and tons of space for activities.
The park front country is weak to say the least. There is a private property boundary with inadequate signage related to trespassing and hunting with high powered rifles. Even getting to the campsite requires a two mile trek and while there is a potable water spout within a .5 miles it is off limits to visitors as is the fastest pathway from the parking lot. Lastly the staff was rude hostile and inhospitable to me as a visitor. They were too incompetent to answer simple questions such as: "where is the fastest route to the Bluff campground". All I received was shoulder shrugs and were not welcoming in any way shape or form.
