My cousin and I were up there in May of 2011. We stopped in there while we were on our mission to Tuk. Everyone was friendly, from the older man tending to the sites to the magazine journalist writing about all the locations across Canada (I will never forget her tiny little camper). My cousin and I did a little work around the sites from general clean up to chopping wood. The owner, or manager, rewarded us with dinner in the restaurant: chili. I remember it fondly because it was delicious. After dinner we sat around the fire with some people from around the site, staff, and some government workers. We had some drinks while we shared stories. A memory I hold on to dearly. - A man in his 70s would travel there, every year in the summer, from Arizona and back when the winter came. - A woman that slept in this tiny, teardrop, looking camping on the back of her car. She was traveling while writing articles for a Canadian Road Trip magazine, which I can not remember its name. - Several First Nations truck drivers, which told of great pride in the Yukon and loved working for the territory. Almost had me convinced to look for work up there.
Avoid if you can. We stopped here for gas on our way to white horse. They had a friendly lady from Mission BC pumping gas. I went in to pay and asked the male (presumably the owner) he snapped at me and said “didn’t you read the pump?” No… I didn’t because your employee pumped gas… “Well it $2.50 per litre”. Clearly ripping people off. The station before this was 1.68, and the station on the other side was similar. In fact we went all the way up to Tombstone and didn’t pay more than $1.70. These people are con artists. They know the distances are great between stations and take advantage of people!
A rustic and older camping spot, gas station and restaurant. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The tenting sites were clean and quiet.
For an overnight stop on the Alaska Highway this campsite is fine. Sites are spaced apart and it was great to be able to have a fire after having been in BC with fire bans. It was good to have wifi available at the office. Unfortunately the shower and toilets were dirty and lacking supplies like soap and toilet paper so we wouldn't use them.
Very wide open campground. We were told to just pick a pull-thru site towards the back of the park. Lots of trees. Very secluded and not busy at all. Our kids enjoyed riding their bikes throughout the grounds. Lots of dog walk areas at the back of the park in the woods and backs up into a river you can walk down to creating your own trail as there is still a lot of construction back there. Gas was extremely expensive. Really beautiful views.
