Good location for a break, during our Somerset back to Reading drive. Glad we stopped and noticed the information as the trailhead for the Old Turnpike Tunnels bike trail. We've been talking about doing the ride and this added to our interest. Curious that there apparently is no option to return to where you came from, without going to the next turnpike exit, get off and then re-enter the turnpike to go back.
Stopped here on our way from Philly to Pittsburgh on a Friday night two weeks ago, and it ended up being the same place we stopped on our way home Sunday. As far as rest stops go I've got nothing bad to say. It was clean, service was good at the places we stopped to eat, bathrooms were clean. There isn't much else you can ask for.
Sideling Hill is one of those rare turnpike stops that you’re actually happy to see on a long drive. The plaza is big, easy to get in and out of, and has plenty of parking, gas, and clean restrooms, which is really all you need when you’ve been on the road for hours. Food-wise, you’ve got the usual fast-food mix (Burger King, Popeyes, Dunkin, Auntie Anne’s, etc.), plus a convenience store, so grabbing a quick meal or coffee is simple. The building feels modern and well kept, and it generally feels safe and well lit, even later at night. Bonus points for the newer trailhead and outdoor area, which is a cool touch if you want to stretch your legs, walk around a bit, or break up the drive with something that’s not just sitting at a table. Overall, an easy go-to stop on the PA Turnpike that’s become a regular break spot on trips between Philly and Pittsburgh.
Bathrooms out of paper towels, drying air option works. Busy during holiday. Free truck air line to use outside halfway between the plaza & the trailhead.
Yo, Bike riders. Sideling and Rats Hill Tunnels are just a peddle away. Plenty of parking. Clean when I was there. Truck parking has been expanded recently. Lol..don't normally stop here so not sure when it was. But truck parking is newer. The bike trail head to the tunnels is an awesome idea. If your into that. Look for the pavilion.
