We arrived around noon on 8/2; formally check-in is 2pm. We are full timers—sixth year. We have hosted for the USFS for five seasons now. We know the standard. We were early, but the site was open. The host later noted this “infraction” and suggested we should pay for the extra “day”! The hosts here have a tiny area, to wit: three pit toilets and 11 primitive camp sites. We just completed our rotation at a 24 camp site area on an alpine lake in MT. We had a boat ramp, beach, and six latrines. We averaged over 250 patrons/day. We never employed the tactics the hosts here used: -immediately not greet, but “scold” the “rules”: no generators, no unattended fires, no unattended coolers, beware cougars and bears, dogs on leash at all times, etc. Two hours later: husband drove by and stopped his truck in front of our site; he literally glared at me for at least five minutes; I was relaxing, dozing on and off reading my book; when I finally got up to see what he wanted he sneered and drove off. Later the first day: the host team knocked on our closed door (we drive a 36’ fifth wheel) around 7pm; we were preparing for an early night as we had a 4am wake up and arduous day. The female host (third rule infraction diatribe of the day) initiated a long soliloquy of our many prospective violations: you cannot have flammable wood that could spark up near your camp; your dog barked a few times during the day; your storage cooler (no food, it had shoes in it) is illegal, $200 fine; your generator shall not run (we have redundancy generators; we have not used them for a year as we have roof mounted solar); etc. This was all within our first several hours of arriving. We were so stunned and offended we were ready to leave. Complete harassment. We are landlords and we have navigated the various statutes surrounding property rights. The hosts violated our property rights: quiet enjoyment; 4th Amendment protection against illegal searches and seizures as they continually walked through our camp site; and multiple unannounced and unauthorized entries into our camp. I am not sure why they targeted us? We, as responsible past hosts at USFS sites, tried to empathically reflect on our actions. What could we have done differently? I don’t know. Maybe not have our veteran bona fides stickers on our vehicles? Maybe not fly Old Glory? Maybe not clean up trash around the site and park? Horrible. If this is what the Ranger of this District wants, then so be it. It seems another case of bureaucracy ruling the people. Rules for thee, but not for me: their camp: flammable materials all over their camp; unleashed dog; multiple food containers left outside and unattended. There is no need for hosts at such a small area. End the madness and save money.
Beautiful primitive NF campground. Clean pit toilets. They even have a night light in it! Wonderful spring water from the faucet!
Nice clean forested place for boondocking. We spent one night here on the way from Whitefish, MT to Driggs, ID. It was almost exactly halfway. You’re in a lodge pole pine forest off of MT RTE 1. Not far enough from the highway to be able to ignore the traffic, but quiet enough at night not to disturb sleep. Our site was absolutely clean. Good picnic table and fire pit. There are pit toilets and water faucets. The sites are far enough apart to afford privacy. I would stay here again. No Verizon service.
Is NOT a picnic area but Google won't change it. Spring Hill CG is a pay site run by Big Sky Recreation under the USFS. Nice secluded campground that's quiet with no access to lakes or streams. Perfect place to sit by the fire and recharge yourself for another week at work.
15 camp sites all have fire rings and tables and areas for both tent and rv parking. The water here is some of the best tasting water anyone can drink. The camp host is an awesome gal. You get the occasional wildlife in the area. This is my absolute favorite site. There is restrooms as well. Bear boxes and a dumpster. Just a five minute drive to Georgetown lake. 16 day stay at $13.00 a day or if u have that handy access pass you pay just half. Right across the road is a picnic area and a spring water area to fill up your jugs and anything else you can fill with this delicious cold water
