Dear Highway West Vacations Team, I am writing to formally bring to your attention a very unpleasant experience we recently had with one of your properties, the Vinland Hotel & Lounge. We had a reservation scheduled to support our participation in a UTMB trail race. Unfortunately, due to severe weather in the region, the event was cancelled, which also forced us to cancel our trip. On November 18th—four days prior to our scheduled arrival—we contacted the Vinland Hotel & Lounge to cancel our reservation. Over the course of four days, we spoke multiple times with the front desk (Lalita) and the property manager (Maria); however, neither was willing or able to assist us with the cancellation. We also contacted Booking.com, who confirmed that given the circumstances, they were ready to authorize a full refund as soon as they received confirmation from the hotel. Despite this, we were unable to obtain the required confirmation from the property. The staff repeatedly gave us conflicting information, were unhelpful throughout the process, and at times came across as rude and untruthful. Their refusal to cooperate left us without a resolution, despite Booking.com's clear willingness to process a refund. We believe that we were treated unfairly. We did everything correctly—we initiated the cancellation as early as possible, communicated with all parties, and the reason for cancellation was completely beyond our control. We are still hoping that the hotel and the company will make things right by the customer and refund us the full amount. We also want to note that we have full records of our communications with both the hotel and Booking.com, which clearly show our attempts to resolve this matter in good faith. This experience is far below the level of hospitality and professionalism we expected from a Highway West Vacations property.

One of their hotels (Sideways Inn) falsely charged me $250 for smoking in the room. I explained to the manager, Chris, that I absolutely did NOT smoke inside the room. I deliberately went away from the building to smoke. I mistakenly left a cigarette on the table. He did not believe me nor would provide a receipt. I called the owners, Highway West, and they don't answer the phone. So now I’m out $250 “extra cleaning fee” for something I did not even do. I didn’t even complain about the filthy, hairy, sewage smelling bathroom. But they felt it ok to charge me $250.

This company is BS. The Flying Flags RV Resort & Campground location does not answer the phone or emails to cancel a reservation. Ultimately, the timeframe to cancel will pass and you'll end up having to dispute the charges with your credit card company!

My goodness, our dog died and I have been trying to cancel our stay for two days. The hotel's phone has been off the hook for two days, the cooperate office number does not have a live person to talk too and does not return calls. Both, hotel and cooperate office does not return emails as well. The only thing I know is they processed my credit card. Hopefully this is just an isolated issue with me and not everyone.

We have been going there for almost 20 years. We stopped by with my parents for lunch. They drove in and were told they had one parking spot open. It was a quite a walk for two handicap 80 year old couple. The restaurant server was rude, and did not want to take orders. The guest are required to wear mask, but not the workers. The crew was also not friendly at all. After 20 years of in joying Shelter Cove, we will most likely not going back. Plus may OSHA violations where the "New Lodge" was to be built along with violations to the Corona 19 safety requirements. OSHA will be contacting you. Pulse I suggest you review the handicap parking regulations required at Shelter Cove. There are Zero parking place at Shelter Cove. How many accessible parking spaces are needed?
