Unfortunately, our stay was overshadowed by Craig, the camp host’s behavior. Upon arrival, the host went over the campground rules in extreme and unnecessary detail, requiring us to read every rule in full and sign a form stating we understood them. Rather than feeling welcoming or informative, this process felt more like jailhouse rules than a campground orientation. It’s also important to note that this was off-season, and there was only one other camper in the entire campground. We spent most of our time inside our camper and were quiet and respectful, which made the excessive monitoring feel especially unnecessary. The campground itself has a large number of residential trailers, which gives it more of a trailer park feel than a camping experience. Combined with the host’s constant presence, it felt intrusive—almost like staying on someone’s private property or in their backyard rather than enjoying a campground meant for relaxation and privacy. On the morning of checkout, the host began circling our campsite in his golf cart a full hour before checkout time, repeatedly driving by in a way that felt intrusive and intimidating. He explicitly stated that if we were not completely out of the campsite by 11:00 a.m., we would be charged for another full day—clarifying that he did not mean packing up by 11, but physically gone. While campground rules and checkout policies are understood and respected, the way they were enforced was unnecessarily rude and grouchy. The constant hovering created an uncomfortable and stressful end to what should have been a relaxing stay. Camp hosts set the tone for the campground, and unfortunately this one made us feel rushed, unwelcome, and monitored rather than welcomed. Policies can be enforced professionally and courteously. Because of this experience, we would hesitate to return.
This is a great campground. The camphost was a little ratchet on my propane campfire after 10. I was quiet, not smoking the area out, he got all crazy on me.
Cute hidden gem in Calaveras County! No frills but plenty of charm, animal and family friendly fun! They sell wood, have restrooms and showers. (Bring quarters for the clean, hot shower😃) Wildlife frequently comes through and is very exciting! The owners are the Best! They will treat you like family, highly recommend staying here.
Had a great time with family here. Perfect way to end summer. Craig was super friendly at check in and Ed was great at taking us to our spot and guiding us in. Larger RVs like ours (39’) are kind of limited but space 19 was perfect for us. No AT&T at all but Verizon and T-Mobile worked.
We were really impressed by Golden Pines. The park is beautiful, quiet, and very well maintained. You can tell the owners, and camp host Jeff, really take pride in creating a high quality RV experience. Our kids loved the pool and riding around camp on their bikes. It’s in amazing proximity to all the area has to offer. We cannot wait to go back!
