We use this place twice a year. The reason I only gave it two stars for service, is they need to go around and sell firewood more often and after 7:00. Or make it available at the office.
The new managers are absolutely amazing. So glad they have new ones for many reasons. They are kind people and will go out of their way to accommodate their campers. They're more than happy to deliver your wood to your site, the bathrooms/showers are cleaner than they ever have been in all the years we've camped here. The sites are always well maintained, the grass, fire pits, tree branches, etc. I can't say enough nice things about this campground and the managers. Thank you for being lovely people!!!! 😊
We stayed at Sherwood Forest Campground recently for the first time and were pleasantly surprised. It is located on Lake Ore-B-Gone which had been an old mine. Now it is a recreational area for swimming, boating, fishing and scuba diving. The grounds of Sherwood Forest were immaculate. Our site (29) had plenty of space with full hook ups, and we had a view of the lake. There are sites with a full lake view. The campground was approx 2/3 full and very quiet most of the time. Some seasonal sites as well. Many people camping had off road vehicles as the area has some famous trails nearby. The Masabi Bike trail is also next to the campground which provides miles and miles of biking. There are several additional fees (reservation, service, pet), even with that, we would definitely return. It was worth it.
The campground is a great location for starting a bike ride on the Mesabi trail. I prearranged to arrive after dark to my rustic campsite. Check-ininfo was waiting for me to grab upon arrival. I pitched my tent, then enjoyed a few beers at two local pubs, walking distance from the campground. In the morning, I used their Wi-Fi to conduct a morning business meeting at a picnic table, packed up my tent, and started my bike ride to Tower, Minnesota. I left my car in the nearby parking spots for the Mesabi trail.
So upset. We stayed there and left a night early and they charged us a $35 cleaning fee saying that we left garbage in the fire pit of our site. My husband and I cleaned our site before we left and made sure the site was clean when we left. Someone must have put something in our fire pit after we left and now we are getting charged with it. I called the campground about it and explained them that we left our site clean so we aren’t sure why we are getting a charge and lady I spoke to said she would check with her husband. She never called me back or resolved the issue. Now I have to go through the trouble to dispute with my bank to get this cleared up. I had no idea I would be scammed by a campground. We will not be staying here again.
