This park was once native to the Comanche tribe which is an indigenous tribe that founded BIG SPRING. Please do your research to properly understand and admire why this park even exists. There are countless of memories and history is that forgotten and buried because simply the town is white washed. This includes all the new “renovations” done. There was some indigenous artwork (wood carvings) that were carved and apart of this park which was destroyed and now taken away. This park has lost all culture and is a dead spot for kids. No matter what type of wanna be fancy park you build. The native people of big spring will remember it held culture and history of the Comanche tribe. The city and officials of big spring has failed the town once again by trying to rewrite history and forget that people were slaughtered. The signs throughout the park are not respectful to the Comanche tribe and instead paint lies about how their people were murdered and raped. Big spring area holds a trail of tears monument. It’s bigger than what you would think. Until they restore respect to the Comanche tribe and actually do right. This park will be -10 ⭐️s
A good place to spend the night, right next to the golf course. There's only about five spots and will not take a rig over 30 ft long. Noise from the street close by but it's free and close to downtown. Good luck a safe travels 👍
Stayed here the other night. It was dark when I arrived, it was hard to see, I couldn’t find the campground, drove around the whole park multiple times. I’m hoping this will help someone who may get there when dark. When you turn into the park look immediately to the left, the dirt road will lead you to the campground. If you pass the gate and stay on the road you’ll end up driving around like I did 😅
It's okay, just a bunch of trash everywhere like always. P.s. I absolutely hate the renovation of the spring. 😭 The signs are burnt down and you can't even read them. I have to lift my youngest over the walls because of inaccessibility for shorter people. No more trails that took about an hour to walk. All there is is a bunch of concrete everywhere. Bring back natural paths!!! My hips can't take this hard concrete.
It's a nice interesting beautiful place to adventure, picnic, play grounds, and more. I create new pieces out of old dead wood and have found myself some very nice pieces and a bit of history also. I can't wait to see it in the greener season upon us now. Also a wonderful display of lights you can drive through near the Xmas holiday! Fishing is done there also. Check it out take a picnic lunch.
