Last Chance Camp & Lodging

A nice, simple, open space on a ranchette just north of Cheyenne. Inexpensive. Can accommodate most rigs and tents. No hookups or dump station. There's even a teepee and some small, yurt-style fixed camp tents. Two clean portapotties for your needs. The hosts respond right away. I arrived well after dark and Steve met me at the entrance to show me to the spot they thought I'd like. Last Chance Camp is hiw the hosts make a go of things, and they do a nice job. They'll text you info if you call them ahead. Steve suggested some sights I might want to check out after I told him where I was headed next. Great place to stop on your western travels when you don't need much. I found them using the HipCamp app, then got more info from Google maps and the LastChanceCamp website.

Mark and I have been staying at Last Chance Campground for 11 years of fun during the Cheyenne Frontier Days. Steve and Chris Johnson are the hosts and owners. They are wonderful people and great hosts!! They have become lifelong friends. We have made many great people there, that we have stayed close to for many years now. A beautiful place to stay mid-cross country road trip or to gather with friends and family—I’ve done both! I stayed here in the tiny home with my dog on a cross country trip in 2021, and she had the time of her life running and playing with the horses. So when she died last year, I knew I had to bring her beloveds together at Last Chance Camp to celebrate her 13 years. The house was a perfect place for the Joni Family Reunion, with a full kitchen and a grill, a stellar board game collection, a perfect patio and plenty of bathrooms and bedrooms. We had a wonderful time reminiscing and experiencing the beautiful wildlife and farm life at Last Chance Camp, and hope to do it again!

On my 8 day cross country trip from NJ To OR, I found this place for my day 6 stop. Wow!! What an incredible place. Christine is welcoming, easy going, and you can tell she really cares about her guests. I opted to stay in the tipi, a true piece of living history. I loved star gazing at night, and I was perfectly cozy and warm in the space. I had access to the main house to make food and shower, and I got to meet other friendly travelers. I loved petting the horses, walking the property, and joining Christine and Steve for some homemade rhubarb crumble in the outdoor kitchen, which is totally decked out. This was an unforgettable experience, and I plan to return one day! Thanks you guys 💖

We are effective boondockers in our 37’ fifth wheel. We, sadly, only spent one night here in their campground. It’s so beautiful, so quiet. The hosts are very hose, they invited us for a fireside chat and s’mores. So much to do in Cheyenne we will definitely go back. Great place to stay.
