Beautiful!! . Spent a couple hours on and around the rock. Great half ish way point to get out and stretch from a 14 hr car ride! Dogs loved it. I loved it. Great for yoga!
A nice paved trail to Independence Rock. There are plaques along the way to read. I didn’t climb the rock because a storm was brewing. The bathroom was convenient and clean. There’s no cost to enter.
This is a prominent landmark in Natrona County, central Wyoming, along Wyoming Highway 220. It is celebrated for its role in American westward expansion. It's a massive granite dome that served as a key milestone along the Oregon, California, and Mormon Pioneer Trails during the 19th century. Facilities are very well maintained.
Nice clean rest stop and paths to see the rock were well maintained. You can walk around to view the names on the one side of the rock or climb on top if you are able, its really steep. I did not. There are animal gates to get in and we did see Proghorns when we were there. Also heard a rattle snake so watch your step.
Stopped here mainly to use the bathrooms - they were very clean! However, upon stopping we realized what an awesome site this is. It’s a 1.4 mile loop around the rock. Pioneers carved their names into the rock upon Passing through along the Sweetwater River. You can also climb up the rock. Whether to just stop and enjoy the scenery or to take the walk out to view the history, it’s a great stop for any age.
