I recently stayed at Bulli for a weekend camping trip, and while the location is undeniably stunning, the overall experience left me with mixed feelings. I’m giving it 3 stars not because it was bad, but because a few key frustrations held it back from being great. Let’s start with the good stuff. Bulli Beach itself is absolutely beautiful. Waking up to the sound of waves crashing just beyond the dunes is something special. The coastal walk is lovely, and it’s a great spot for early morning strolls or catching the sunrise with a cup of coffee in hand. The ocean breeze helps keep things cool, and there’s a nice balance of open space and shady areas. Facilities are pretty decent, too. The amenities block was clean and well-maintained during our stay. Showers had good water pressure and stayed warm a must after a day at the beach. There’s a playground for kids, BBQ areas, and a café nearby if you’re not keen on cooking every meal yourself. The park staff were polite and checked us in quickly, though we didn’t see much of them after that. Now for the not-so-great part: the tent setup. I don’t know what’s under the surface at Bulli, but trying to peg down the tent was a nightmare. Honestly, it was like hammering into cement. We bent several pegs trying to get them in, even after soaking the ground a bit. Eventually, we gave up and used rocks and sandbags to weigh the corners down. I’ve camped in a lot of places, but this was one of the most difficult setups I’ve dealt with. If you’re bringing a tent to Bulli, make sure you have heavy-duty stakes and a rubber mallet or be ready for a serious arm workout and a lot of swearing. Another issue was how close the campsites are to each other. There’s not much in the way of privacy, and noise travels easily. We had a group next to us with kids, but be aware that it’s not exactly peaceful if you're hoping for quiet evenings under the stars. Also worth noting: the ground doesn’t drain well if it rains. We had a brief shower overnight, and even with a ground tarp, our tent ended up with a few damp patches. All that said, the location is hard to beat. If you’ve got a campervan or caravan, I imagine the experience would be much more comfortable. But for tent campers, it’s a bit of a challenge, especially if you’re not prepared for the unforgiving ground. Final verdict: 3 stars. Bulli is beautiful, the beach is unbeatable, and the facilities are fine but unless they’ve added jackhammers to the gear hire, pegging your tent here is going to test your patience (and your pegs).

The park is lovely, situated right next to the ocean. Our ensuite site was clean and well-appointed, although perhaps a bin would have been a welcome addition. There is a great cafe on site, perfect for breakfast or a morning coffee. One can enjoy their coffee while strolling along the walking track that follows the ocean. For those feeling adventurous, an early morning swim in one of the rock pools could be a delightful experience. It serves as an excellent base for exploring the attractions and sights that the Wollongong area has to offer.
