Spent a week camping at Babcock State Park Campground with family. It was such a beautiful, clean, quiet park. The shower house is clean and well maintained. You can purchase firewood and ice at the check-in center. Be sure and take some DVDs because our Internet service was sporadic. A great park for hiking, too.
Fairly quiet campground. The bathroom/showers were clean when I entered them. I hiked the Mann Gorge Trail that connects with the campground for some waterfall and gorge overlook views. Most of the campground spots are shady, but a few, especially across the road, are in the sun.
The campground is nicely shaded and spaced. The showers and toilets were very clean. Water is easily accessible. Quiet as a tomb at night. It seemed this is a campground for real campers. No generators. The staff is really nice. We would definitely stay here again. Though it is a drive to the sights of New River gorge. The grist mill is interesting. There is a small lake with rentals but if you really want to kayak go to Summerville lake. Salmon run access is nice. There are a few short hiking trails. Nice playground. This is site 29.
What an absolutely wonderful state park! The campground was clean, sites were spacious, guests were quiet and respectful. The park had well-marked and well-maintained hiking trails with beautiful creeks, lakes, waterfalls, and scenic views.
We stayed here overnight on our way to Myrtle Beach. It's, well, cliff top. We arrived very late in the evening up a one lane mountain road set up camp and headed to the mill in the morning. I had no idea this existed in nature. It was absolutely breathtaking. Well worth the ear popping.
