First time here. There is absolutely nothing here. One mile dirt road. There is a tent camping area, a group camp and then the RV spots. RV sites come with picnic tables and ramadas with concrete patio. No host that I saw when we were here. There is a credit card ranger. At $6 this is really cheap camping. There were only 2 other occupied sites when we were here. Very happy to see armed law enforcement rangers on patrol. Place is all dirt. Fine when it is dry but must turn into a mud puddle in the rain. Very quiet. Very few trees so we got great solar and satellite reception. No amenities other than the vault toilets. No water spigot. Most sites have a ramada with picnic table and concrete patio. Ramadas are numbered but the sites aren't defined. You could back in to some sites but we just went side-in to the ramada. The picnic tables are new within the last few years. On the road in there is a big pile of the old tables and benches just dumped in a field along the road. We've been mostly boondocking across the southwest for the last two weeks. Haven't had a decent market since Tucson. Stopped here to get gas and to do some grocery shopping. The nearby town of Del Rio has shopping and even a Chili's! Also car dealerships. Great for an overnight if you just want to get off the road.
Super quiet in January. Definitely cold and wet but the sun came out today and it’s beautiful. Cold but beautiful.
Its a beautiful place my son camp there last week and share some moments with me...
Great quiet campground for an overnight. No hookups or water but nice covered table, vault toilets & animal proof trash containers. I would stop again if I was in the area.
Smooth gravel road in. Loop road, good for any size rig. $6/night, $3 with senior/access pass. Self check-in station with info on the area. Only a handful of other campers here currently. Tent and RV camping are separated but plenty of spots for both. Beautiful desert plants and neat walking paths to explore. Sign says bear, mountain lion, javalina, etc. So be aware. Fairly quiet here with some light highway noise/oil drilling. There are a few small (& clean) bathrooms with pit toilets. No hookups, no water. Cool planes flying nearby & camp has a memorial area for a plane crash. Walked a long way down to the water, what a hike! Also checked out the boat ramp (pic included)
