Newbie travelers and we loved it. There are some back roads that are a little sketchy to get to the park but honestly let me husband drive 😅. We took our 6 yr old and our dog. People were nice, we checked in at about 6pm. There are NO lights in the campground so know you won't be able to check in at night time. We will revisit!
First, a good 80% of these reviews are seasonal visitors/ friends and family. We booked for 3 nights, only stayed for 2. This is a very cliquey campground and if you're not in the loop, you'll be treated very poorly. The host has a bad attitude and isn't really accommodating at all, we had a blowout on our camper on the way, so we informed her we'd be a little late, and she told us we couldn't come!! Now it's late, almost dark, and we have to scramble to find someplace to stay last minute. We ended up staying at a truck stop that night. We went to horseshoe the next day, there's no service at all, a complete deadzone not even a radio signal. The only way in and out of the campground is a long, steep, winding hill, and our camper is 44ft. The campsites are scary and unlevel as there's a dropoff into the river behind them, so longer campers beware. On our last day, the host drove up to our camper while we were hooking up to leave, and told us to hurry up and get out because she had someone else coming in(this was before check-in time btw) and told us if they're coming in while we're leaving, they would make us back up down the hill! Then we'd asked her where the dumpsters were and all she said was "where they always are" as if we would know?? The only positive from this experience is that we weren't charged for the night we were turned away. Overall very unwelcoming place for newcomers, never staying here again.
Pet Owners BEWARE. We always read the rules before we book at a new campground. Here is what this one states: ******** Pets cannot be unattended at any time. You may not leave your pet inside your RV or tied at your site if you leave the campground or go boating. ******** As RVers that like the explore the area, this is a big NO for us.
We had a wonderful stay. Julie and John were so helpful! We were going to the Kentucky Derby and the bus we paid for canceled our reservations one week before the race! Julie went beyond to find another service to take us there. They worked hard at trying to accommodate us. The most beautiful grounds and stay.. Thanks again, Jim and Kathy
We got a Great RV Spot, 35 feet from the North side of the Ohio River... The gentle sounds of the Big Tow Boats going up river, with their 15 Barge tows was Magical. The ones going down river can barely be heard, as they aren't working as hard, going with the flow of the river. The Camp Hosts were Exceptional, Very Helpful, Knowledgeable, and Friendly. The General Store in Leavenworth was also Excellent.
