Had a great night here on a recent motorbike trip. One of my mates caught a nice Golden Perch in the river (and released it). A few older concrete tables, quite clean grounds and bins that look cared for (emptied, neat and tidy). Toilets were okay. Only one other camper there when we were there. There's a causeway crossing near the start of the dirt access road, which could have some water across it in wet season.

What a fantastic little camping spot, dirt road in is a little corrugated & the water was a bit low, but still good as I caught my 4th ever Yellowbelly here, so very happy considering I went with a trout spinner to try for them to tick of the bucket list, but I ended up with the biggest Yellowbelly I’ve caught so far. I did walk up & down the river, to no other avail, just happy to have caught the one. The 2 old crossing are interesting one with wooden log beams down each side & then cobble stone paved between with local river rocks, while the other is what left of a concrete & stone bridge. There is only a drop toilet & 2 picnic tables in the camping area with 2 bins also, sadly many still don’t use the bins leaving rubbish around, which I picked up a shopping bag full & binned.

A perfect destination for those who are set up for off grid camping and totally self sufficient. No fresh water, television, telephone or internet!! This is a beautiful free camp area with a long drop toilet, bins and nature. Set on the banks of the Gwydir river, with a great swimming hole, small rapids, sandy beaches, fishing spots and we even spotted a platypus. The kookaburras herald sunrise each morning and then all the Birdlife start their chatter. Beautiful pied butcher birds sang to us each day. The remains of the original river crossing are fascinating. It looks like cobblestone and no doubt took a lot of blood, sweat and tears to build. It would have been built in the 1800's, though I can't find any history. There are also the remains of a more modern crossing, which has also washed away. Now there's no crossing.. It is 4.5kms along a rough gravel road. The worst part was having to leave..

Nice little free camp along side the Gwydir River, just off the highway. Camp ground is mostly flat with some exploring that can be done by the river. Bins on site which assists in campground cleanliness. There is one compost type located at the ground, pre determine fire pits also. Chris & Nicole IG@dtour4x4

Gorgeous place for a cool dip on a hot day after a decent rainfall. The facilities nearby are very basic so be prepared to bring everything you need and take all your rubbish home with you. Watch out for leeches.
