Cinco de Mayo - do you know the real story? Take a weekend or a day, come out to Goliad and visit the Mission de Espiritu Santo, the Presidio and the birthplace of Zaragoza. The histories, the stories... it is one of the must memorable stops on our trip so far. We camped at Goliad, and it was a beautiful state park; very well managed and had a lovely community feel. We did have some campers while we were there that thought they'd ignore the fire ban which is in place for all our safety, with the incredible dry caused by the ongoing drought in Texas, but park officials addressed the issue right away. Please folks, if you're camping, leave no trace, be considerate, and use common sense, especially with regards to fire bans. You're not special, a fire can get away from anyone, and will affect everyone in the area. Grousing aside, this is a lovely place to stay, close to town and all amenities, and has a bevy of fascinating historical and lovely places to explore as an added bonus.
Amazing park. I highly recommend it kayaking and camping, or if you are into history check this place out. The trails are very manageable, and the staff is very informative and friendly.
Wonderful example of CCC history. Mission Espiratu Santo is a beautiful place to reflect on the violence of colonization and the stories we're told. The proximity Texas history is pretty cool. Just down the road in any direction are signs of the revolution. Campgrounds close to the San Antonio River are nice. The banks are steep though, roughly 20 feet.
Very nice park. We stayed in the 50 amp rv area, clean we'll manicured areas, nice hiking trails. We enjoyed visiting the missions and learning more of it's history. All staff and park rangers and hosts were very nice and helpful.
Lovely experience 3 nights, grounds are well maintained with staff ready to help. Visitor Center staff was excellent. I arrived just in time for a guide led tour of the mission & history. The ranger/guide was EXCELLENT, very knowledgeable & fun. The mission church & museum has an amazing history. Restrooms clean/showers hot. I stayed in the water only Longhorn loop, very shaded, deer wandered through. A trail runs through this loop. ATT cell coverage good, video download on occasion slower.
